چکیده

In this paper we review the different relativistic and QED contributions to energies, ionic radii, transition probabilities and Landé g-factors in super-heavy elements, with the help of the MultiConfiguration Dirac-Fock method (MCDF). The effects of taking into account the Breit interaction to all orders by including it in the self-consistent field process are demonstrated. State of the art radiative corrections are included in the calculation and discussed. We also study the non-relativistic limit of MCDF calculation and find that the non-relativistic offset can be unexpectedly large. PACS. 31.30.Jv – 31.25.Eb – 31.25.Jf – 32.70.Cs

QED second order corrections on the speed of light at low temperature

We want to study thermal corrections on the speed of light at low temperature considering temperature dependence of photon vacuum polarization tensor at two-loop level in the standard QED‎. It is found that the heat bath behaves as a dispersive medium for the propagation of light and reduces its speed proportional to the second order of temperature‎. ‎Similarities and differences‎, ‎in light ...

High-precision relativistic atomic structure calculations and the EBIT: Tests of QED in highly-charged ions

High-precision relativistic atomic structure calculations based on the relativistic many-body perturbation theory and the relativistic configuration-interaction method are shown to provide stringent tests of strong-field quantum electrodynamic (QED) corrections when compared with electron beam ion trap measurements of the spectra of highly-charged, manyelectron ions. It is further shown that th...

Chemistry of superheavy elements.

The number of chemical elements has increased considerably in the last few decades. Most excitingly, these heaviest, man-made elements at the far-end of the Periodic Table are located in the area of the long-awaited superheavy elements. While physical techniques currently play a leading role in these discoveries, the chemistry of superheavy elements is now beginning to be developed. Advanced an...

QED Calculations of the Interelectron Interaction in Li-like Ions

Investigations of heavy few-electron atoms provide an excellent opportunity for testing QED in strong Coulomb fields. A remarkable high experimental precision has been reached in Lamb-shift measurements of Li-like ions. The uncertainty obtained e.g. for the 2p1/2 2s transition energy in Li-like Ni and Zn [1], Ag and Xe [2, 3] and U [4] is by an order of magnitude smaller than the QED contributi...

Leading quantum gravitational corrections to QED

We consider the leading post-Newtonian and quantum corrections to the non-relativistic scattering amplitude of charged spin1 2 fermions in the combined theory of general relativity and QED. The coupled Dirac-Einstein system is treated as an effective field theory. This allows for a consistent quantization of the gravitational field. The appropriate vertex rules are extracted from the action, an...
